Lake Mattoon/Mideast Regionals

This weekend was the Lake Mattoon Mideast Club Regionals. I was very excited to see what speed I had and unfortunately...there was not much to brag about. My bike splits have been pretty bad for me lately and it's been bugging the heck out of me. I have this hunch...more than a hunch that most of it is in my bike fit. So, after 3 weeks of complaining about it, my coach changed my position today to see if that would help (it at least shut me up). That was today, so we will see what the wattage reads tomorrow on my ride. More importantly, we will see how I feel in a more aggressive position.
Funny enough, I did pretty good in comparison to the rest of the girls that showed up to race. It was an olympic distance race so the swim is .9 miles, the bike is 24.8 miles and the run is 6.2 miles. I felt pretty good on the swim, streamlined and in control. I caught tons of people on the bike, but i should have had a faster bike split anyhow. I averaged 21.2, and I feel like I should be consistently around 22mph. Funny enough, I started the run in 1st place. I felt awesome on the first 5k, but then the side stiches became horrible. I was litterally turning blue b/c I couldn't get any oxygen and I wanted to lie down and stretch my belly. I hung tough for that last 5k and it hurt bad. My legs wanted to go, my heart wanted to go, but my stomach said HELL NO. So, I crossed the finish line in 2nd, but found out that I was really 3rd b/c some chick entered the water way behind me (time trial start). So that was a bummer, but I still got a pretty awesome trophy for winning my age group.
I totally collapsed at the finish line and stretched out my stomach. It is still not right today. My stomach muscles are super sore from the cramping. I hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon. That sucked!
I also had a good time hanging out with all the people from Indy. My friend Josh was so kind to carpool with me. He is now educated on all of the Indy gossip and my entire life story. Thanks Josh!

Hey, Whitney, great job on the AG win last Sunday. I'm sure that finishing a 10K with no help from your core will help you fight through the IMKY marathon.

Nice meeting you before the race!
