Bears, and cold and rain OH MY!

We are leaving for Georgia on Wednesday and I am stoked for our big race! I would be even more excited if it wasn't going to rain, be cold and if there were not bears. Yes, bears! I was looking at the mandatory gear list and it said Bear Spray! On TV this morning, there was a girl who was seriously injured b/c of a bear attack during a race. She stopped to go the bathroom and was mauled by a bear in Alaska. There are tons of bears in the mountians where we will be and I will be fully prepared with my bear spray. Does that stuff even work? I sure hope so!

For those of you who would like to track the race, the website is

http://www.usaranationals.com/race_hq.aspx The race will be held in a different format so you won't know who is winning until the next morning. But, you will be able to see if we are still in the race. The race is 30 hours long (7am Friday-1pm Saturday)and we are expecting to race for the entire 30 hours. In the past, the first person to the finish was the winner. This year, it is whoever gets the most points (with unlimited points) is the winner.

Rest assured, I will be racing my ass off and putting my big girl pants on while I'm out on the muddy, gnarley, hilly mountain bike trails. I am very excited and I am mentally prepared for the elements.

I look forward to my race report for nationals and if you have any bear tips, let me know!
