Swimming, Biking, Running OH MY

There is only so many hours in a day. I am in the middle of my huge distance block in my training plan in preparation for Ironman Louisville. I am around 17-19 hours a week of training right now and it's crazy, but i don't feel like it's enough. I did a 5 hour hilly ride with my coach on Sunday and I got done and thought to myself "Hell, can i really ride another hour and then run a marathon at race pace". I have survived 5 Ironmans now and my goal this year was to race IM Louisville. The amount of preparation that it takes to "race" an ironman is insane. I still think I will be "surviving" the Louisville course, but hopefully i can find some moments where i find myself pushing my threshold...in a good way:)

I have concluded that in order to excel at this sport, especially the longer distances, you must train like a swimmer, train like a cyclist and train like a runner. Now, find time to eat, take care of the dog, the house any other responsibilites that you have and there is little time for anything else. The reality of sport in general, is that we should be so greatful to God that we are able to get up every morning and train. It is important to appreciate every mile, because it is a gift and a priviledge. I must constantly remind myself of this when i am driving all over the place trying to get to swim practice, back to work and then home to ride...and then to the dog park with Lola Monster. It is all so worth it.

If the weather is good, I’m going to try to make it down to Louisville the weekend of August 30 – 31 so that I can photograph the Ironman event.
